Samtec unveils the MEC5, what it is calling the industry’s first 0.5-mm pitch edge card socket with justification beam. There’s also no Wi-Fi. Instead you get tiny Lightning and USB-C connectors. They slide into the Osmo, just below the LCD—you just need to slide off a cover to reveal the electrical contacts. A physical connection to your smartphone means Wi-Fi (which the Osmo doesn’t have) won’t drain your battery, and the high-bit-rate video will copy over faster if you want to edit using iMovie or the automated Story editing tool in the Mimo app.

On the surface, it makes sense — and is why we’re strongly recommending it — but read the reviews – Amazon has plenty of glowing testimonials, too – before purchasing to make sure it fits your desired needs.
